Jackson Triggs (Okanagan Estate)

Winery's Description:

The Jackson-Triggs Okanagan Estate vineyards are situated in the south Okanagan Valley, a picturesque example of some of the most rugged beauty found in British Columbia.

In 1998, Jackson-Triggs leased a 410 acre site called the Osoyoos Lake Bench from the Osoyoos Indian Band. Located along striking mountain slopes that stretch above Osoyoos Lake, the vineyards enjoy plentiful sunlight thanks to its southwesterly exposure. The vineyards, planted on moderately sloping terraces, feature predominantly sand and gravel soils. High heat during the day is balanced by the night time cooling effect of the lake, providing optimum conditions for vine growth and grape ripening. Classified as the only desert found in Canada, the area's unique climate and soils combine to create an ideal "terroir" for growing a wide selection of premium quality varietals.

One 240 acre portion of the Osoyoos Lake Bench is named the Bull Pine Estate Vineyard, and a second, covering 186 acres, is the Bear Cub Estate Vineyard. Bull Pine is planted with grapes that create Jackson-Triggs Okanagan Estate's award-winning reds: Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as the white varieties: Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The Bear Cub site also provides the same award-winning varietals as Bull Pine, as well as the noted Shiraz grapes for the wine that was named Best Red Wine in Canada from the Wine Access Canadian Wine awards in 2002.
